Beginners Archery Courses
Gosport Bowmen run Beginners courses throughout the year, this is dependent on the availability of our coaches.
Numbers are very limited and places go quickly.
We can take children from the age of 13 on our courses without an assessment. Children aged 8 to 12 may be able to take our course but will need to attend an assessment session prior to booking the course.
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult throughout their course.
Course costs £50
Each five-session course lasts two and a half weeks and covers the basic principles on archery, safety, equipment and shooting technique. The courses are run by GNAS qualified club coaches.
These beginners’ lessons are always held on Wednesday and Friday evening either indoors or outdoors depending on the time of year.
One-Day & Two-Day Courses
Course Cost £50
During the warmer months, we hold one-day courses (can be adapted to a two-day course for juniors). These courses are held outside and cover the same content as our five-session course. These courses are held at the weekends and are run by GNAS qualified club coaches.
For all our courses, the club provides all the archery equipment you will require: we strongly recommend that you do not purchase any archery equipment until you have completed the course. The club coaches and members can offer advice on the purchase of equipment.
At the successful conclusion of your Beginners course you will be invited to apply to join the club and the GNAS. Membership of the GNAS provides you with ongoing liability insurance: an essential requirement if you wish to shoot. You are not permitted to shoot at any venue, including the club ground, if you do not have GNAS membership.
Club equipment is available to members who have just completed a Beginners course. There is a £30 fee for a 6 week hire period or part thereof. An extension of that period may be allowed subject to availability.
Please note that Juniors attending a Beginners course (those under 18) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Courses are booked online through Eventbrite. Please click the links below for more information on each course and to book a place.
For those wishing to give archery a try before committing to a full Beginners course, we offer a two hour session for £10 by arrangement with the Club Secretary. Please note that demand is high and early pre-booking is essential.
Booking a Taster Session or an Assessment for a Junior Archer
If you are interested in a beginners course for a child aged 8 to 12, they will need to complete a taster session prior to being able to book a beginners course – this is so that we can ensure they are suitable for an archery beginners course. Suitability for the course is decided by our coaches following assessment during a taster session.
